Executive Director

On behalf of Whitney Child Centre, Simpli Education Group is recruiting an experienced full time Executive Director who is a passionate and focused leader who will oversee the Centre, its staff and its families. The Executive Director will be responsible for the successful leadership, overall management, and operations of the organization according to the direction, and policies set by the Board of Directors.

Whitney Child Centre (WCC) was established in 1983 and is a valued part of the Rosedale/Moore Park community. Providing compassionate, supportive and top-quality care to approximately 145 children, WCC offers toddler, preschool and before- and after-school care to children ranging from 18 months to 12 years of age. WCC is a provincially licensed, not-for-profit centre and is operating out of Whitney Public School.

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director is responsible for the general operation of the child care centre in compliance with the Child Care and Early Years Act, Municipal Regulatory Bodies, Public Health Department, the Occupational Health and Safety Act, the Fire Department, the Employment Standards Act and other mandated legislative requirements. The Executive Director ensures all policies and procedures set forth by the Board of Directors and the Ministry of Education are followed at all times. Our leader will be expected to possess exceptional staff management skills, strong financial acumen and a deep understanding of how to deliver programming that supports the development and emotional and physical well-being of the children. This role is supported by an Assistant Director, a leader of programming and an external bookkeeper.

The Executive Director is also responsible but not limited to;

  • Effectively and efficiently managing the day-to-day operations of the Centre to support the needs of children and families
  • Supervise a team of 15 skilled staff, providing training, evaluations, mentoring and structure to ensure all team members are performing at their best, both individually and as a cohesive group
  • Adherence to all policies, regulations and legal requirements in compliance to the Ministry of Education and TDSB
  • Ensure all policies, handbooks, files, documents and logs are maintained and updated in accordance with all regulatory and legislative requirements
  • Oversee curriculum standards to ensure programs reflect ‘How does Learning Happen’ (HDLH) and Early Learning for Every Child Today (ELECT) mandates
  • Financial management of the Centre in alignment with Board of Directors’ policies and requirements, including accurate financial records, forecasting and budgeting, fees, payroll, accounts payables/receivables in conjunction with accountant, etc.
  • Maintain a collaborative relationship with the Board of Directors on ongoing issues, reporting, financial matters and other operational requirements. Attend monthly Board meetings and provide monthly Supervisor reports.
  • Effectively manage Centre enrolment and maintenance of the waiting list
  • Maintain a good working relationship with the Principal and staff of the public school

Mandatory Qualifications:

  • Degree or Diploma in Early Childhood Education
  • Membership in good standing with the Ontario College of Early Childhood Educators
  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of all legislative requirements regarding the childcare industry, including Child Care and Early Years Act, Toronto Children’s Services regulations (AQI, CSIS, etc.), Child Care Licensing System and all other governing regulations
  • Demonstrated knowledge of legislation and regulations related to Occupational Health and Safety Act, Ministry of Labour, Employment Standards Act, Toronto Public Health requirements and the AODA
  • Demonstrated knowledge of budgeting and financial management
  • Excellent interpersonal, leadership, and problem-solving skills
  • Experience with human resources management practices and leading and managing a large team in a manner that promotes employee engagement and professional development
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuous professional learning
  • Vulnerable Sector Police Check, Standard First Aid and CPR Level C, Food Handling Certificate and up-to-date immunizations

Experience:

  • Minimum 6 to 10 years’ experience working in senior child care management position
  • Experience in a non-profit or commercial licensed childcare program
  • Experience in managing a diverse organization
  • Experience in managing an organization with 20 + employees
  • Experience in oversight of the following programs: Toddler, Preschool, Kindergarten and School-age children
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office software applications
  • Demonstrate sound judgement and excellent communication skills (written, verbal)

Hours: 40 hours per week

Vacation: 4 weeks
