How do you fit in?

Employees are responsible for the interpretation and application of electrical and instrumentation principles in the design, installation, commissioning, inspection, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical and/or instrumentation equipment or systems at power stations. Employees perform tests and evaluate results using various types of test equipment. With support from senior personnel and the E&I supervisor, employees are required to analyze, evaluate, document, and recommend follow-up actions on process and equipment reliability. Employees develop and make modifications to existing drawings, estimate costs, specify, select and procure equipment, and perform acceptance tests. Employees Identify and support upgrades on processes and equipment.

May assume administrative duties such as filing, record keeping, data input, report writing and preparation of operating and maintenance manuals. May act as a resource to less experienced staff by providing technical guidance.

What you’ll be doing:

Under the general supervision of the E&I Supervisor or the direction of a more senior technologist or other professional, employees perform various predictive, preventative and corrective maintenance activities of moderate complexity as well as non-routine maintenance and supporting capital project initiatives. Typical duties include but are not limited to:

  • Troubleshooting problems (faults, failures), analyzing, correcting and/or repairing and completing reports pertaining to the equipment.
  • Performs or leading preventative maintenance on specific pieces of equipment and participates in predictive maintenance programs.
  • Makes recommendations on the development of preventative or predictive programs for specific pieces of equipment.
  • Installing, commissioning, testing, maintaining electrical and/or instrumentation equipment or systems.
  • Performs duties such as routine paperwork (including the documentation on plant electrical and instrumentation blueprints), attending meetings, specifying and ordering equipment/parts/materials/supplies, data gathering and/or entry, record keeping, and updating appropriate manuals.
  • Mentors less experienced staff in operation, installation, testing, repair, and maintenance of equipment.
  • Prepares estimates and initiates work orders.
  • May coordinate the work of contractors or other temporary staff.
  • Plans execution of own work and recommends enhancements to work procedures.
  • Supports project execution through contractor management, adhering to schedules, providing input to project plans and coordinating permits.

All duties and responsibilities will be performed in accordance with established health, safety and environmental principles, corporate policies, practices and procedures and applicable government legislation.

What you must have:

  • An instrumentation or electrical engineering technologist diploma
  • 2 -5 years’ experience
  • A valid Alberta Journeyman Certificate of Qualification as an Electrician, Power System Electrician or Instrumentation Technician is considered an asset.

Where you’ll be working:

This position is primarily based at our Valleyview Generating Station near Valleyview, AB with frequent travel to other Heartland sites in NW Alberta. Relocation to the Valleyview area may be necessary.
