About Us

The mandate of Elections Alberta is to administer open, fair, and impartial elections by providing stakeholders with the necessary information and means to participate in the democratic process. We also provide support to election officials to ensure impartial service delivery and serve in an advisory and regulatory role to achieve compliance in electoral finance activities.

Elections Alberta is a non-partisan office of the Legislative Assembly.


Elections Alberta is seeking applications for Election Officer positions in the electoral division 77 - Peace River including: Grimshaw, High Level, La Crete, Peace River, Rainbow Lake, Hotchkiss, John D’or, Chateh, Meander River, Bushe River, Hill Crest, Garden River, Zama City, Paddle Prairie, Rocky Lane, Warrensville, Buffalo Head Prairie

Role

Election Day

The workday begins with the set-up of the voting place at 8:00 am and concludes with the completion of an unofficial count after the close of voting. Election officers must be prepared to set up the voting place, provide back-up to other voting day staff, assist with the unofficial count, and complete additional tasks (as assigned).

Advance Voting

Advance voting place staff usually work all five advance voting days. The workday begins with the set up of the voting place one hour prior to its opening and concludes with the close of the voting place each day.

Anyone working an advance voting position must be prepared to set up the voting place, provide back-up to other voting day staff, and complete additional tasks (as assigned).

Qualifications

Election officers are an essential part of the voting process, providing voting opportunities to electors across the province. All residents of Alberta that are 16 years of age or older are welcome to apply. Individuals interested in applying for these positions should demonstrate:

  • An interest in the democratic process
  • A commitment to helping people
  • Good communication skills
  • Basic literacy skills (reading, writing and comprehension)
  • Legible printing
  • Careful attention to detail
  • Ability to follow directions and adhere to standards
  • Ability to learn quickly
  • Ability to work long days (12 – 14 hours)

Election officer positions are available for all advance voting days and on Election Day.

Returning Officers are responsible for hiring all election officers in their electoral division.


An online application will be available once the hiring process has commenced. The application will require the following details:

  • Confirmation of age range (16-17 or 18+): You must be 18+ to be eligible for the Site Supervisor position
  • Physical and mailing address: Your application will be made available to the returning office for the electoral division that you reside in
  • Previous election experience: Experience is not required, but is an asset
  • Positions you are interested in: Identify all positions that you are interested in working. During the hiring process you may be considered for additional roles.
  • Dates you are available to work: Identify all dates you are available and interested to work. Most advance voting positions require availability on all dates between May 23 and May 27.
  • Languages spoken: Additional languages spoken are an asset.
  • Consent for sharing name, address and contact information with other election management bodies: Indicate if you consent to your information being shared with other election management bodies with future election, enumeration, or census employment opportunities.
  • Confirmation of eligibility to be appointed as an election officer.

Your application will be directed to the Returning Officer for your electoral division based on your residential address. You may also be requested to work in electoral divisions that are adjacent to where you live.


Returning office staff will contact qualified applicants by phone or email to discuss the applicant’s qualifications and available positions. Not all applicants will be contacted. Successful applicants will receive an email with information about their work and training assignments, as well as instructions for completing their worker profile online. All election workers are required to complete online and classroom training to prepare them for their role.
