Overview:

As a member of the Southwest Ontario Aggregates Docks team, the Docks Operator’s primary objective is to help support the team by ensuring the successful and safe shipment of materials to the customer. They will provide the customer with a professional level of service by upholding Lafarge Brand appearance and courteous communication.
Their daily tasks could include dispatching and ticketing trucks, operating a shipping loader, facilitating a vessel unloading aggregate product, or miscellaneous administrative duties. Reporting to the Docks Manager, the Operator will have several duties that will fluctuate based on the needs of the business and to uphold the day-to-day operations at our Windsor, Sarnia, and Courtright Docks.
Responsibilities:

Safety:
  • Promote safety culture through engagement with employees, subcontractors, and suppliers.
  • Implement and maintain local and regional initiatives with an objective of “zero” safety incidents.
  • Promote and practice safety policies, processes and review procedures to ensure that site meets or exceeds all Lafarge and Regulatory guidelines.
  • Ensure that scalehouse and surrounding area is kept safe, presentable, and functional by practicing effective housekeeping.
  • Engage in daily safety communication activities (ex. site inductions, daily huddles, field level risk assessments) with employees, contractors, and visitors.
Scale Operations:
  • Operate APEX system according to standard operating procedures to check/tare in trucks and produce weigh-bills/tickets for the shipment of goods in an accurate and timely manner (no overloads).
  • Collect documentation as per Front-End guideline for transport vehicles and transfers to the CSLM.
  • Proactively communicate customer, transport and system issues with CSLM, sales and back-office to ensure timely resolution.
  • Collect money for cash sales and reconciles against register as prescribed by control procedures.
Customer Service:
  • Provide assistance via phone or face-to-face contact with visitors and direct them to appropriate personnel for further assistance.
Dispatching:
  • Follow the dispatch daily checklist to identify, record, and communicate changes to Dispatch aiming to minimize delivery disruptions to the customer.
Logistics:
  • Where required, support the CSLM by following the Load & Scale Policy and STP Policy programs.
Shipping:
  • Load highway trucks with the correct amount and type of material as per the driver or weighmaster.
  • Ensure that material shipped is free of frozen lumps and contamination.
  • Manage stockpiles safely with respect to frozen lumps and frozen stockpile faces.
Vessels:
  • Ensure safe vessel interface and offloading of aggregate materials in conformance with Lafarge policies and Security Plans.
Production:
  • Operation and loading of portable stacker to rehandle aggregate material to ensure sufficient stockpile space for upcoming vessels.
Administration:
  • PO creation, receiving, work orders, and other reporting as required through SAP.
  • Help pick up or deliver parts/supplies for each of the docks as required.
Environmental Management:
  • Ensure that site meets or exceeds all Lafarge and Regulatory guidelines.
Equipment:
  • Ensure assigned equipment is operated and maintained to original equipment manufacturer specifications and industry best practices.
Maintenance:
  • Perform daily inspections as part of our preventative maintenance program.
  • Maintain site orderliness by ensuring access and travel ways are clear and sufficiently bermed.
Other:
  • Perform other duties as assigned to assist in the efficient operation of the sites.
This position is for day shift (Approximately 7:00 am to 5:00 pm) Monday through Friday with flexibility based on occasional weeknights and weekends as required for vessel offload scheduling.

Relationships with Others Jobs
  • Reports to the Docks Manager
  • This position requires extensive liaison with 3rd party truck operators and marine personnel

Specific Accountabilities:
  • Safety: Near Miss and HI process, MVA’s, FA’s, MI’s, LTI’s, Daily Safety Huddles, Risk Assessments.
  • Maintenance: daily and annual inspection process, prioritizing deficiencies as they occur

Qualifications:

Education & Work Experience:
  • Canadian secondary school diploma or equivalent
  • Heavy equipment operation experience an asset
Knowledge & Skills:
  • Specific mobile equipment training (980 Operating Training Course) an asset
  • Mechanical aptitude
