The Employee Communications team at IGM Financial is responsible for planning and delivering engaging and strategic employee communications across the IGM Financial group of companies (Mackenzie Investments, Investors Group Wealth Management and partners with Investment Planning Counsel) to help drive a fulfilling employee experience, culture and business performance. Success is achieved through optimizing and modernizing internal digital channels through data-driven insights, advising and supporting Business Partners on new and fresh communications to enhance our talent brand and culture, and developing integrated CEO communication programs and events to engage employees in IGM’s business success.


Reporting to the Assistant Vice-President, Employee Communications, and part of the IGM Financial Human Resources team, the Director, Mackenzie Employee Communications (EC) will help improve the employee experience through developing innovative, proactive, metrics-based and effective communications. The Director role is based in Toronto in a hybrid workplace environment.


Key Accountabilities:

  • Partner with the AVP to develop and lead the annual CEO program strategy for Mackenzie Investments including Employee Forums, Strategic Leadership Forums, and CEO videos – to help bring our strategy and culture story to life through an innovative, differentiated and streamlined approach
  • Lead team in planning and delivering a wide range of CEO events to support and enhance our corporate culture, including developing decks and speaking notes, speaker and stakeholder engagement, promotional communications and partnering closely with the Events and Marketing team on logistics and creative
  • Provide Mackenzie CEO / senior leaders with strategic communications counsel on key initiatives, including confidential Executive projects such as organizational announcements and business acquisitions
  • Lead collaboration with internal business partners across the employee experience ecosystem on key initiatives including community, sponsorship, DEI, crisis communications, sustainability and technology
  • Recommend and implement ways to optimize our Mackenzie/IGM digital channels to ensure our leaders and employees are well-informed, engaged and contributing to Mackenzie and IGM’s success
  • Analyze, measure and report on communication effectiveness and provide recommendations based on best practices/trends and insights for continuous improvement
  • Ensure simplified and smart process efficiencies across the team, including process documentation, team cross-training, workbacks and RACIs to ensure efficient planning and high quality of work and strong partnerships with key partners
  • Engage, coach and develop direct reports to develop a high-performing team with a career growth mindset and create a culture of collaboration, inclusion and solution-scoping across the broader Employee Communications team


Education, Experience and Leadership Competencies:

  • Bachelor’s degree Professional Communications or College diploma in Communications/English/Public Relations required; additional designation is an asset.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience at a director level, including experience in team building and leading people in employee or corporate communicationsin an agency or large conglomerate setting
  • Must have experience developing and executing strategic communication plans and workbacks, including ability to analyze, measure and report on communication effectiveness
  • Proven experience working with C-Suite executives in communications, as well as issues and crisis management with an ability to influence and persuade across all levels of the organization
  • Superior research, writing, editing and proofreading skills with proven attention to style, tone and detail to drive compelling content across multiple channels and platforms (digital and in-person)
  • Strong organizational and project management skills with experience in managing multiple, diverse projects and tight deadlines with autonomy, while maintaining timely, high-quality work across the team - comfortable wearing a strategic hat and also rolling up sleeves alongside the team to make big things happen
  • A proactive and innovative mindset with the ability to build strong relationships and collaborate effectively
  • Responds well to changing priorities and circumstances, and demonstrates resilience and positivity when faced with disruptions or obstacles
  • Ability to work independently with good initiative and judgment
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel); Experience with SharePoint, Workfront, Airtable is an asset
  • Work hours may vary; some evening and weekend work may be required; Incumbent should be comfortable self-managing their time and maintaining a healthy work-life balance
