PAL Aerospace is a proud partner of Airbus Defence & Space for the Government of Canada’s Fixed Wing Search and Rescue (FWSAR) aircraft replacement program. Through AirPro SAR- (a joint venture between PAL Aerospace & Airbus DS) the AirPro team will be responsible for the In-Service Support which covers all aspects of the maintenance work not undertaken by Royal Canadian Air Force technicians. It will include high value repairs, 2nd and 3rd level maintenance, future modification work and depot level maintenance of the aircraft.


This significant and exciting project will pave the way for innovation and opportunity within PAL Aerospace while growing our operations. PAL Aerospace is currently looking for a Design Engineer with specialization in Structures / Mechanical Systems to work in Ottawa, Ontario with AirPro.


The Design Engineer will maintain up to date the engineering design manual for the program, work with the OEM on the delivery of the aircraft and support the engineering requirements of the aircraft in-service. This position will focus on Structures / Mechanical Systems, however, will be asked to support and contribute in other engineering areas as needed (i.e. Avionics). To create a strong search and rescue program, we rely on a strong team.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support the Senior Design Engineer(s) and contribute to the management of the Engineering Support System
  • Hold responsibility for the Technical Airworthiness Manual (TAM) compliance of all Structures/Mechanical Support System activities
  • Hold responsibility for airworthiness issues concerning the development and approval of design changes of systems and subsystems, development of Special Inspections, and Service Bulletin implementation for Structures/Mechanical Support System
  • Coordinate tasks with other personnel within the Acceptable Technical Organization (ATO)
  • Participate in Engineering and Airworthiness Working Groups meetings, and Technical Review Meetings
  • Support OEM in maintenance of Aircraft Structural Integrity Monitoring Program / Mechanical Systems Integrity Monitoring Program
  • Perform other customer-driven functions consistent with this area of expertise
  • Trouble shooting technical problems, on site or remotely
  • Other Duties as assigned


Required Education, Skills and Qualifications
:

  • Completion of an undergraduate degree in engineering (Mechanical or Aerospace Degree)
  • 5+ years working in aerospace engineering
  • Good working knowledge mechanical systems and structural repair concepts
  • High level of autonomy and proven self-starter that takes initiative
  • Solutions oriented, with strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to multi-task and work with changing priorities
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders both in person and virtually
  • Exceptional organizational and prioritization skills
  • Strong communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 Suite
  • Eligibility to obtain and maintain security clearance
  • Must be able to travel within Canada and internationally as required
  • Must work in a hybrid environment


Preferred Qualifications (will be considered an asset)

  • Previous C-295 experience
  • Experience working with DND or familiarity with DND programs
  • Experience with DND Technical Airworthiness Manual
  • Knowledge on avionics
  • Knowledge of airworthiness and certification programs
  • Previous work experience in ATO or ADO
  • Additional languages are an asset: French, Spanish, although not required
