COST ACCOUNTANT

Pertinent Information: Direct hire position located in Windsor, Ontario with a well established and manufacturing facility. Ideal candidate is extremely hands-on and willing to jump in and assist in any capacity within the accounting department.

Wage: $65,000 - $75,000/year. Comprehensive benefits package. Generous RRSP match.

Job Description

Reporting directly to the Controller, the Cost Accountant is responsible for the following, but not limited to:

  • Review, analyze and provide insights relating to costing variances for all plant actives, including production, inventory and operating expenses to drive business improvements and bottom line gains
  • Assisting in preparation of annual budgets, including the revision of labour and overhead rates and the annual standard cost revaluation
  • Working with Engineering to create and/or update Bills of Materials including establishing/maintaining standard costs for material, labour and overhead
  • Identifying and assisting with/or implementation of processes to improve efficiency and accuracy in plant reporting and new control procedures
  • Assisting plant management in settling standards for Key Process Indicators and developing measurement methods against those standards
  • Evaluation Cost/Benefit Analysis of various projects and departmental initiatives, including product specification changes and process improvements, to assess impact on profitability and overall plant operations
  • Assisting in the preparation of monthly, quarterly and yearly financial statements
  • Assisting in monthly closing process to accurately reflect business performance
  • Completing and analyzing monthly Fixed, Variable and Actual Cost Scorecards
  • Overseeing and participating in physical inventory and cycle count programs
  • Preparation and analysis of cost estimates for new products
  • Inventory and WIP sub ledger management and reconciliation, including the reconciliation of inventory obsolescence to reserve
  • Maintaining fixed asset detail records and performing account analysis

Qualifications

  • Bachelors in Accounting / Finance
  • CPA preferred but not required - working towards is a definite asset
  • Must have Inventory Management experience
  • Experience with cost accounting principles and job costing
  • ERP/MRP implementation experience required
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Must have a willingness to be hands on and own the process
  • Experience with financial planning, forecasting, developing budgets, dealing with complex issues
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently
  • Detail-oriented
  • Practical problem solving skills
  • Ability to prioritize workloads and ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Highly values team work and professionalism
