Position Overview

The Department of Psychiatry in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for two (2) Clinical Research Associate(s). These Fixed Term Part-time positions are for approximately 12 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.

Reporting to the Principal Investigator,

The Clinical Research Associate will be part of the research team conducting clinical trials involving psychoactive substance administration and standardized psychotherapeutic intervention. Must be able to work flexible hours to accommodate studies and patient schedules and will require occasional extended workday (early morning start and late evening finish).

Position Description

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

  • Assist in the development, design, and implementation of projects involving clinical populations and/or drug administration in accordance with the research group's policies and procedures indicated in study protocols

  • Screen potential research participants for clinical trials, including physical, medical, and psychiatric evaluations, together with clinical judgement to ensure suitability for participation

  • Educate study participants on trial procedures and the investigational compound, including potential side effects, duration of effects, and expectations during drug administration sessions

  • Monitor study participants during drug administration sessions

  • Support manualized psychotherapeutic interventions, following completion of on-site training procedures

  • Collect and process biological samples (e.g., blood, urine)

  • Assist in setting up new projects and maintaining established projects

  • Assist in the preparation of study reports, abstracts and writing manuscripts

  • Communicate and work with internal and external research parties, including sponsoring organizations and regulatory bodies

  • Ability to demonstrate and explain how work is performed to individuals in other positions performing similar work

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Minimum of MSc in a patient-facing health related field (i.e., nursing, clinical psychology, etc)
  • Minimum of 3-5 years working directly with psychiatric patient populations in a medical or clinical context
  • Demonstrated professional experience working in the psychedelic field or completion of related training
  • Experience in administering standardized psychotherapy in a research or clinical setting; or completion of relevant training
  • Experience in patient engagement, recruitment, and interviewing
  • Experience performing routine medical tests (blood sampling, ECG, physical assessments) and/or psychiatric evaluations
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Proficiency in personal computing use of Microsoft Office programs and bibliographic software; experience with research databases (e.g., RedCap) strongly desired
  • Experience working with regulatory submissions for clinical trials (e.g., Health Canada, Ethics Board) strongly preferred
