Dimensions

Heavy Equipment Mine Maintenance Welders report directly to the Mine Maintenance Supervisor. They do not have any direct reports, but do act as mentors when working with Apprentices to demonstrate and document trade skills associated with the work being performed during the execution of their delegated activities.

Purpose


Newmont Porcupine is looking for a Heavy Equipment Mine Maintenance Welders to join our team!

This person must be competent using all required materials, tooling, techniques, and equipment during the execution of field or shop maintenance activities performed on a continuous day and night shift rotational basis to support our mine operation.

Essential Duties

  • Correct and report unsafe behaviors, actions, and conditions identified throughout the course of their work activities to ensure immediate resolution.
  • Work independently or as a group in a safe and productive manner maintaining equipment and work areas in a condition that does not compromise safety and promotes organized workflow.
  • Maintain an inclusive, safe and healthful workplace at all times and make suggestions to improve any aspect of what we do
  • Participate in the development of safe work procedures or instructions and promote safety, health and environmental awareness and compliance at all times.
  • Use appropriate PPE or safety equipment applicable to assigned task
  • Work in confined areas or at heights as required while using appropriate safe work procedures, and equipment.
  • Follow Newmont’s safety policies, procedures, standards, and guidelines.

Essential Job Duties

  • Champion our work management process to ensure adherence and embrace work optimization opportunities in all avenues of asset management.
  • Monitor work performance related KPIs and advise on, execute, and implement corrective actions to achieve desired compliance levels in conjunction with supervisors
  • Perform and document assigned Scheduled and Unscheduled maintenance activities which may include but will not be limited to preventive, or corrective maintenance activities
  • Identify and communicate opportunities for the continuous improvement of our business to reach full potential. Engage and participate in the roll out of approved improvement ideas and opportunities.
  • Perform detailed inspections of equipment to prepare for maintenance or release of equipment with completed interventions to ensure safe and reliable operating condition. Ensure all safety and fire prevention systems on all equipment are operating correctly at all times and are operating as designed.
  • Comprehend and execute tasks according to the appropriate original equipment manufacturer’s procedures, instructions, or manuals diligently and in an environmentally responsible manner.
  • Determine the appropriate equipment or methods to be used for performing assigned tasks based on activity requirements.
  • Use SAP EAM system effectively and as directed to document information such as but not limited to:
  • Work being performed or materials being used, as well as any handover information requirements mandated between shifts
  • Work Scopes detailing required work and materials
  • Hours worked and detailed service reports
  • Task progression, duration, information, handover, deficiency, or deviation
  • Communicate effectively within the department as well as with all other departments, sections and business partners as required

Training & Experience


  • Certificate of Qualification as a Welder
  • Current or prior all position Canadian Welding Bureau(CWB) Certification 4F-SWAW CSA W47.1
  • A minimum of 5 years of demonstrated experience performing Mobile Maintenance Welding in a mine on surface and underground equipment used for:
  • Mine Loading and Hauling equipment
  • Mine Production and Development drilling equipment
  • Mine support and emergency equipment
  • Those with experience relating to the following are encouraged to apply:
  • Air Carbon Arc Gouging, Welding using SMAW, FCAW, GMAW, TIG welding processes, brazing, soldering, cutting with plasma cutters, oxy/acetylene cutting, heating, and gouging equipment Fire Suppression System maintenance and installation
  • Reading and fabricating from OEM and Engineered prints while using shop equipment, smoke extractors, ventilation equipment, metal cutting and forming equipment safely and efficiently
  • Machining, align boring, and use of machine shop equipment and intricate measuring tools
  • Disassembly, repair, overhaul, and reassembly of mining equipment components and implements such as Ground engaging tools, buckets, blades, truck trays, frame components, booms, levers, cylinders, etc.
  • Certification and relevant experience operating boom trucks, Telehandlers, Forklifts, EWPs, Cranes, Fuel, Lube and service trucks
  • Additional Trade Certifications relevant to Mobile Heavy Equipment maintenance
  • SAP Enterprise Asset Management Plant Maintenance experience, including proficiency with all modules associated with plant maintenance
  • Previous experience working with and mentoring employees such as developing individuals with minimal experience at apprenticeship levels
  • Experience in the use of lifting and rigging equipment performing regular lifts in conjunction with regular maintenance activities
  • Familiar with and experience with the use Non Destructive Testing and inspection of base metal and welded surfaces and structures for potential deficiencies.
  • Valid Driver’s license to operate vehicles in Ontario, Canada
  • Meet the physical demands of the role which includes lifting heavy components and working in tight areas

Working Conditions


  • This position is located at Newmont's Porcupine Mine Site near Timmins, Ontario, Canada
  • In this role, you will work on a rotational work schedule which could include day and night shifts. As such, if you do not live near the site, we will require you to relocate to the Timmins area.
