Candidate must have a positive team attitude and exhibit excellence in Customer Service. It is essential that the Candidate be well trained in all aspects of store systems, policies and procedures, and must have a good understanding of the store layout and location of merchandise. Cashiers are required to assist with general store housekeeping, putting out price labels and merchandising duties. Excelling in complementary selling and meeting customer’s needs would be a valuable asset to the success of the business.

The below represents the general details associated with the principal functions of the position and should not be construed as a detailed job description. Candidate may be required to perform other job related duties as assigned.

1. Ensure all store training is completed within required time frames.

2. Acknowledge and greet all customers in a friendly and respectful manner.

3. Follow all store opening and closing procedures.

4. Operate cash register according to store policy, verifying customer purchases and issuing receipts.

5. Scan and Bag all products in an accurate and efficient manner.

6. Process utility payments and lottery purchases as per store procedure.

7. Ask for price verification or overrides when required.

8. Inform customers of in store promotions, pricing specials, etc.

9. Assist with customer inquiries and call for assistance when needed.

10. Manage customer flow at cash by calling for additional cashier or supervisor assistance.

11. Answer incoming calls to front cash and redirect to other departments as requested; take and deliver message when required in a prompt manner.

12. Process returns as per store policy.

13. Ensure cash area is kept clean, neat & tidy, and well organized.

14. Notify POS personnel of corrections needed in a timely manner when price discrepancies are found between signage and item pricing.

15. Ensure staff and customer safety by addressing or reporting potential barriers or hazards on store property.

16. Anticipate and communicate request for cash-pulls (“skims) in a timely manner as per store guidelines.

17. Perform Merchandising duties as directed by supervisor.

18. Communicate to Management any issues requiring follow up or needing attention.

19. Maintain Confidentiality for the protection of customers and fellow employee.

JOB REQUIREMENTS, SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES

  • High School Graduation is preferred. Aptitude for retail math and basic computer operations.
  • Ability to do repetitious work accurately, with attentiveness to customers and supervisors.
  • Experiences including cashiering and knowledge of store product preferred. Can stand for long periods of time.
  • Possess strong communication skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work flexible shifts including evenings and weekends.
  • Possess strong organizational skills.
  • Possess a positive, cooperative, and team-oriented attitude.
  • Organized, honest and communicates well.
  • Personality; enthusiastic, flexible, conscientious, precise, patient, does not assume things, remains calm under stress.
  • Have a strong sense of ownership for roles and responsibilities and take pride in a well maintained store.
  • Maintain a professional image, including complete uniform, name tag, and proper grooming.
  • Demonstrate strong sense of customer service.
