Description:
Reporting to the Manager of Accounts, this position will be accountable for overseeing the day to day functions of accounts payable, accounts receivable and maintenance of the general ledger and analytical activities. Candidates will assist with the preparation of journal entries and reconciling balance sheet accounts. The Accountant will approve payment vouchers and travel claims for payment ensuring all requirements of the Public Tendering Act and the Travel rules are adhered to and all the financial control has been exercised. Assisting with year end audits and other duties as required.
Qualifications:
Candidates must have an extensive knowledge of general accounting software, spreadsheet applications and government accounting standards. Strong oral and written communication skills, analytical skills, organizational skills and the ability to work independently with minimum supervision are required. Experience with Cayenta accounting software is considered an asset. These qualifications would be acquired through completion of an undergraduate degree in Business with a specialization in accounting or a 3-year college Diploma in Business Administration with a concentration in financial accounting, supplemented by three to four years experience in the accounting field.
